Governor Beshear will join fellow roasters Lynn Bright, Todd Strange, Dr. Karl Stegall, and Tommie Miller at the Montgomery Sunrise Rotary's Fourth Annual Commitment to Service Award - Roast and Recognition. This gala event will be held at the RSA Activities Center, 201 Dexter Ave, at 6:00pm. The event includes a silent auction prior to a gourmet, surf and turf dinner, the roasting of the guest of honor herself, and a presentation by the charitable recipient, which is Camp ASCCA this year.

Camp ASCCA-Easter Seals is a camp in Alexander City, Alabama for disabled children and young adults. Camp ASCCA means fun for the 10,000+ visitors who spend time at the facility each year. Campers who have disabilities ranging from Spina Bifida, Multiple Sclerosis, Paraplegia, and Quadriplegia to Downs Syndrome, Autism, Mild, Moderate and Profound Mental Disabilities enjoy unique camping experiences at Camp ASCCA.

Many people and organizations from Alabama Power Company’s donation of 230 acres of lakefront property to the Mobile Rotary Foundation’s sponsorship of 100 campers each summer, continue to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities at Camp ASCCA.

This year, Montgomery Sunrise Rotary will donate $10,000 to help finish the final stages of a 2,800 square foot, fully accessible water playground. The water playground would be the first of it kind at Camp ASCCA and the first of its kind at any Easter Seals camp nationally.

The development of this playground will further the level of enjoyment for campers by creating another opportunity for fun, imaginative play, and new opportunities.

The variety and choices of water components are loaded with activities that encourage children of all ages and abilities to be engaged in water play. The components, which allow for independent discovery, experimentation and exploration with water, are good for those who don’t swim, increases movement, and provide for additional social interaction opportunities.
