911towersWhere were you on September. 11, 2001? For the Gibbons family, the question is hard to answer. Roy Gibbons was on the 87th floor of 1 World Trade Center that day and his wife, Helen, believes he is dead. But when his son starts seeing him, people begin to question if Roy is really gone.

"Unseen," an original play honoring the tenth anniversary of 9/11, will make its world premiere at Auburn University at Montgomery on Sept. 8, 7:30p.m., at Theatre AUM located in the university's Taylor Center. Written by university provost Jeffery Elwell, it offers a look at the personal losses that were part of the national tragedy.

"Like everyone else in this country, I was affected by the events of Sept. 11, 2001," said Elwell. "I began writing the play some three years after the events of that day and after reading hundreds of stories of families whose lives were destroyed that day."

The production has been entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The cast includes Neil David Seibel, assistant professor of theatre, and the following students:

· Daniel Brown, Millbrook

· Alicia Fry, Montgomery

· Michael Krek, Toronto (Canada)

· Allyson Lee, Montgomery

· Nikolas Smith, Prattville

· Sarah Worley, Montgomery

"Unseen" will run through Sept. 18. Show times are Sept. 8, 9, 10, 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. Doors will open 30 minutes before each show. Unfortunately, late arrivals cannot be accommodated. Due to construction, guests must enter the Taylor Center through the west entrance, which faces Goodwyn Hall and the university quad.
